Welcome to the IACP Educational Resources Committee. The committee’s goal is to provide the claim professional with current information and resource materials on legal and claims developments in compliment with the IACP’s various conferences. The resources on these pages are aimed at furthering the educational and training needs of the claim community and help elevate the expertise of our industry. Fresh off the Annual Meeting, the IACP is proud to sponsor educational programs for claims throughout the year, including our London and New York Mini Conferences, this past spring as well as our Paris based Mini-conference this fall.
We have also sought to raise the awareness of claims as a profession by working to recognize individuals and teams in the claims profession through specific recognition awards, presented at the London Mini-Conference annually. We have developed a scholarship program in order to help attract more college and university students to the claims profession as they competed for our Third Annual Scholarship recognition award which is co-sponsored with the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (NAIIA). This award was presented for the third year in a row to a graduating senior this March on the campus at St. John’s University at their Career Day in lower Manhattan. Please see the full press release nearby on this years’ recipient, Melissa Robledo. You can read her winning essay on our website and encourage everyone to see what she wrote and what inspired Melissa to enter the insurance industry. What is even more exciting is that we are working to expand this scholarship program to include other well recognized insurance programs including the Katie School at Illinois State University and Virginia Commonwealth University next spring. Please check back on the website for more information on the 2014 award program.
We’re also excited to announce a new addition to the website called Coverage Corner. This information will provide updates on cases impacting the insurance/reinsurance industry. Coverage Corner is the IACP’s effort to provide the best and most useful content that caters to the needs of busy claim executives who engage in a wide range of coverage topics. Rather than presenting an in-depth analysis of any particular case or legal issue,Coverage Corner will strive to present national trends to the IACP readership, along with short case summaries that can be reviewed quickly and easily. The first article called Construction Defect Insurance Overview 2013 reviews a new crop of cases in the construction defect context that have demonstrated a costly and changing trend for the insurance industry.
Please stay tuned to the IACP website for all the new and exciting things that are happening at the IACP or connect with our Group on LinkedIn or Facebook to stay in touch. We invite all members to contact anyone on the Education and Training Committee or the IACP Board with your ideas on how we can help you access more and even better learning opportunities.
